Clams monitoring water purity

Nature is just amazing. In Poznan, Poland, clams are responsible for monitoring water purity and work at the city’s water treatment plant. The mussels are not tolerant of dirty water, and as soon as they suspect something wrong, they immediately slam their shell. At that moment, the mussel closes a circuit through a spring that is glued to its sink, which gives a signal to the computer – “it’s time to turn off the water supply.” The computer sensors check the mussels’ parameters, because they can slam shut when they want to sleep, but if 4 out of 8 mussels close simultaneously, the system automatically shuts down – this is a clear sign that there is something wrong with the water. #water #nature #technology #rbt #csr #hiring #jobs
